The Lakeshore Museum Center has four sites in Muskegon. The Natural and Cultural history of the area is explored at the Main Museum Site with exhibits featuring a life-sized mastodon, animal habitats, and hands-on galleries. At the nearby Hackley & Hume Historic Site, the homes of Muskegon's most well-known lumber barons are available for tours. The Victorian Era homes feature intricate wood carvings, stained glass windows, and period furnishings. At the Fire Barn Museum a half block away, historic fire fighting equipment is displayed. The story of life during the Great Depression is told next door at the Scolnik House of the Depression Era. The Main Museum is open year round and the other four locations from May through October.
