This summer, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to explore your community in a unique way and learn more about its roots in the Historic Walking Tours and Maintaining American Independence Tours, hosted by the Muskegon Museum of History and Science.
In our Historic Walking Tours, venture through downtown Muskegon where you’ll learn about the current and past uses for buildings, the story of former Muskegonites, and how the area has changed over the years.
As this year marks the 250th anniversary of the United States’ fight for independence, our Maintaining American Independence Tours will explore the wars the U.S. has fought, local residents who served in those battles, monuments dedicated to Veterans, and businesses that supported our country during wartime.
“The summer walking tours are a great opportunity for residents and visitors to step into the stories of Muskegon,” said Lakeshore Museum Center’s Program Manager Pat Horn. “From the legacy of our community’s Veterans to the hidden tales behind our most iconic landmarks, these tours give you a front row seat to our city’s history.”
Walking tours are 90 minutes long and cover one mile on flat city sidewalks with minimal elevation changes. The tour route is accessible for all mobility aids and strollers. There are frequent stops along the tour, and many stops have seating available.
