There’s so many options for camping across West Michigan for people of all ages! Camping offers a great opportunity to make some memories, and maybe even some s’mores! From tents to RVs to cabins to “glamping,” we’ve got you covered with some great options of where you can enjoy the great outdoors.

South West Michigan Camping

Camping season is quickly approaching, which means we are one step closer to sitting around a campfire. A campfire brings undeniable magic; it is where we gather, share stories, and often lose ourselves in the stars on a clear night. North America’s Largest Automobile Museum, the Gilmore Car Museum, offers camping opportunities on-site from April through October! 

Whether looking to glamp-it-up or seeking a more traditional camping experience, South Haven is home to many camping options to suit individuals and entire families. 

The Kal-Haven Outpost is a campground and general store located on the Kal-Haven Trail, just 4 miles from downtown South Haven. The Outpost offers vacation homes, spacious family cabins, couple’s cabins, 70 ft. pull-through RV sites, and wooded primitive sites. Nobody wants to miss out on vacation, especially your pups! Thus, all their lodging options are pet friendly! 

Off Map Glamping provides an elevated camping experience on 75 acres of Michigan woods, minutes from downtown South Haven. Guests stay in furnished luxury safari tents, enjoying the outdoors in style. This is the outdoors how it was meant to be experienced. Cook s’mores around the bonfire and experience the starry night skies.

Barry County is home to some of Michigan’s most beautiful campgrounds! From the historic & rustic Long Lake Outdoor Center to all of the programs found at the YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin. There’s a campground for everybody in Barry County! 

When you set up camp at Coldwater Country in south-central Michigan, you can wake up to the sunrise, the sounds of birds, and the waves hitting the shore. Stay rustic or modern in a tent or RV and enjoy a wonderful, natural getaway.

For great camping in the Lansing area, Cottonwood Campgrounds offers 145 sites for RVs with water, electricity, and sewer to primitive and rustic sites. Located near the Lansing River Trail, this is an excellent getaway with lots of recreational activities and access to the city of Lansing’s amenities. Also in Greater Lansing is the Sleepy Hollow State Park, made up of 181 modern campsites and a no-wake lake in the center of 2,600 acres of rivers, woods, fields, and trails.

Enjoy special events, homemade ice cream at the ice cream parlor, dinner theater, and turkey dinners at Turkeyville Restaurant when you stay at Camp Turkeyville RV Resort in Marshall.

Van Buren State Park, in South Haven, is on the shores of Lake Michigan and features incredible views and high sand dunes. The campground is also near local shops and restaurants. The park features hikes and paved bike trails, such as The Van Buren Trail, from the park to the charming beach town of South Haven. 

Weko Beach & Campground is on 42 acres of picturesque wooded dunes in Bridgman, Michigan. The campground features a boardwalk with two observation decks and panoramic views of the lake and dunes. During the summer, you can rent kayaks and paddle boards, visit the concession stand, utilize the boat launch and enjoy free concerts.   

Soak in the fantastic beachside views at Covert Park Beach & Campground in Covert, Michigan. Visitors of this campground have access to a one-quarter mile of the beach on the shore of Lake Michigan. The beach also features paddle boards and kayaks to rent.

Visit the Mt. Pleasant area, where you can find a variety of campgrounds throughout central Michigan. Deerfield Nature Park, located along the banks of the Chippewa River, offers ten remote campsites and is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a more rugged camping experience.

Double R Ranch Resort has some of the most beautiful campsites anywhere. Reserve a river site, a large grass site with plenty of shade, or an oversized pull-through along the banks of the Flat River. Whatever you need, you’ll find the perfect spot!

The Grand Haven Area is an ideal spot for Camping or RVing – because no matter where you go, you’re never more than 15 miles from the shores of Lake Michigan!  Conestoga Campground, with 100 grassy sites nestled under mature trees, includes various site sizes. The campground also has deep water access to Lake Michigan, Grand Haven, and Spring Lake. Muskegon State Park Channel Campground offers camping between Lake Michigan, Muskegon Lake, and the Muskegon Channel! Hideaway Campground in Mears is a campground focused on families that want a relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The campsite includes a pool, playground, scheduled activities, and access to the Silver Lake Sand Dune region.  The campground has modern restrooms, a laundry faculty, a camp store,  pull-through sites, and cabins. 

There is no other way to explore Michigan than checking out the 2,000 acres of sand dunes at Silver Lake State Park in Mears. This state park features a modern campground 3 miles from the Lake Michigan shoreline and day-use of Silver Lake. The Silver Lake ORV area is the only place east of the Mississippi river that offers dune riding. 

Yankee Springs Recreation Area in Middleville has both a rustic and modern campground. The 5,200 acres include nine lakes, a massive trial system, boating, fishing, beaches, and picnic facilities. Yankee Springs has so many outdoor adventures that visiting this area will not disappoint with endless hiking possibilities.

North West Michigan Camping

It might be winter, but summer is right around the corner! Are you looking for a quiet, peaceful night under the starry skies? Fisherman’s Island State Park boasts over six miles of unspoiled Lake Michigan shoreline near Charlevoix with 80 rustic campsites, 15 of which are nestled in the dune area shore.

Camp Petosega in Emmet County rests along Pickerel Lake on 300 forested acres. It has 90 campsites, a sandy beach, playgrounds, a boat launch, and great hiking trails. It’s a perfect spot for fun with the whole family!

Insta-Launch Campground & Marina in Manistee features a great fishing location with water-edge sites on the Manistee river. The campground offers boaters a full line of services, including boat rentals, pontoons, fishing boats, kayaks, and canoes. This campground is the premium fishing spot for many freshwater fish such as coho, brown trout, lake trout, and small and largemouth bass. The campground also has a fully stocked tackle and bait shop and fish cleaning stations. 

Timber Ridge RV & Recreation Resort in Traverse City features a heated pool, jump pad, outdoor laser tag course, and dodgeball court. The open year-round RV park offers full hookups at all sites and is located next to Pere Marquette State Forest. The campground also has cabin and cottage rentals such as yurts, a bunkhouse, and park models. 

Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping, in Mackinaw City, is a renowned campsite located minutes from the Mackinac Island ferry and downtown Mackinaw City. The camp is surrounded by thousands of acres of wilderness and will have astounding views of Lake Huron.
