Kalamazoo Craft Beverage Week; January 12 – 21; events at multiple locations and times
This is definitely not a one-and-done kind of week, so make your plans now for this week-long celebration of Kalamazoo’s Craft beverage industry. With dozens of industry stalwarts hosting every kind of tasting flight under the sun – think beer with cheesecake, caramel, cookies and donuts, or whiskey with steak – you’ll find more to experience than you have hours in the day. Pop in for Winter Beer Olympics, beer trivia, belly dancing, winter carnival, creatively-themed dinners, or any of the dozens upon dozens of other ‘crafty’ happenings. Bell’’s Eccentric Cafe is bound to have great music, great food, and great tours and Principle Food & Drink is always THE place to go for creative craft cocktails and a meal to remember. Holland Museum; MLK Day: How Can You Change the World? January 15 10:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Join the Holland Museum on Monday, January 15, for this annual free day honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ‘s enduring message of peace and inclusion and how you can continue his legacy in our community. Kids will be inspired and learn about his timeless message through inspiring crafts, color sheets, gallery scavenger hunts and take home activity packets.. Audio and Video presentations of some of Dr. King’s famous speeches will be featured, along with MLK-inspired story times throughout the day with invited community guests. If your family happens to have this day off school, the Martin Luther King events at the Holland Museum would be a wonderful and inspiring place to spend the day.
Rubber Ducky Carnival, W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary; January 20, noon to 2:30 p.m.
Who can even look at a yellow rubber ducky and not break out in a smile!? In playful recognition of National Rubber Ducky Day, the W. K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary will hold a Rubber Ducky Carnival from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20. (rescheduled from January 13). Who knows, you might even see a ‘raft’ of real live ducks competing for attention on the Sanctuary’s very same waters. Staff will be sharing facts about the ducks that overwinter in Michigan and how they stay warm for the winter. There will be duck-themed games and a chance to win prizes, so dress warm and be ready for a very ducky fun day outside with nature. Admission to the Sanctuary is $ 6.00 for adult and $ 4.00 for children.
