Schuler’s Begins Renovation Of Historic Marshall Building Today

Big changes are underway in downtown Marshall as demolition begins today inside the long-vacant structure at 112 N. Eagle Street—the first step in an exciting and transformational journey of the space into a premier event venue named 19 Zero 9. Named for the inaugural year of Schuler’s in 1909, 19 Zero 9 will be housed in the iconic Dreamers Furniture store building, an 1880s historical landmark that is being converted into a setting suitable for a diverse range of year-round events.

When complete, this exquisite space will seamlessly blend the rich legacy of Schuler’s Restaurant and Pub with modern elegance, creating an unparalleled experience for weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions. The two historic buildings sit less than two blocks apart, providing added convenience for guests.

This multi-use event space will feature a large reception room accommodating up to 250 seated guests, an intimate soft-seating reception area, bride and groom’s quarters, and large restroom facilities, as well as three stylish boutique hotel rooms, adding a touch of sophistication for those seeking an all-encompassing venue.

To ensure an exceptional culinary experience, 19 Zero 9 will feature exclusive catering by Schuler’s Restaurant. Known for its impeccable service and delectable cuisine, Schuler’s will bring its signature touch to elevate events held at 19 Zero 9.

What will set 19 Zero 9 apart is not just the exquisite setting but the professional onsite planning services that will be available. Drawing upon the extensive hospitality experience of the Schuler’s team, the venue aims to provide full-scale event coordination, ensuring that every detail is meticulously executed.

“We’re excited to revitalize this significant historic structure,” said Sue Damron, President & CEO of 19 Zero 9 and Schuler’s Restaurant. “With an anticipated early 2025 opening, bookings are now being accepted for future dates. We invite community members and visitors to follow our progress, stay updated through our social media channels, and visit www.19Zero9.com for more details.”

The 19 Zero 9 project is the latest initiated by Damron, who acquired the legendary restaurant in 2019 and has worked for the company for more than two decades. Over the past five years, she has been responsible for ongoing renovations at the restaurant and pub, but more notably she led the charge to transform former office and storage space (part of the building’s original hotel footprint) into seven new mixed-income units—four of which are reserved for low-to-moderate-income residents—and five boutique guest rooms branded as The Royal Hotel. In 2020, she also developed a picturesque off-site outdoor venue in rural Calhoun County called Hyde Away, which adds diversity the company’s hospitality portfolio.

As a testament to Marshall’s rich history and commitment to preserving its cultural landmarks, 19 Zero 9 emerges as a beacon of elegance and sophistication. The restoration of the Dreamer’s Furniture store aligns with the town’s dedication to its heritage, offering the perfect blend of tradition and modernity.

Founded in 1909, Schuler’s is noted as one of Michigan’s most iconic restaurants. With more than a century of successful years in the industry, Schuler’s remains a hospitality leader not only in Michigan, but throughout the country.
