Muskegon County Moms Enjoy Free Mother’s Day Admission to Hackley & Hume Historic Site

Muskegon County moms are in for a treat this Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024, with free admission to the Muskegon Historic Sites of the Lakeshore Museum Center from 1-4 p.m. Explore the Hackley and Hume Historic Site, Fire Barn Museum, and the Scolnik House of the Depression Era, and receive a complimentary gift.

Designed by architect David S. Hopkins in the late 1880s for lumber barons Charles H. Hackley and Thomas Hume, the homes have been structurally restored to their 1890s appearance, showcasing Victorian architecture and late 19th-century interior decorative arts. The shared ‘City Barn’ housed horses, equipment, and living quarters for two coachmen on the second floor, incorporating elements from both houses like the onion dome and turret.

The tour also includes a visit to the Fire Barn Museum and the Scolnik House of the Depression Era, both a part of the Muskegon Historic Sites of the Lakeshore Museum Center.

Enjoy free parking on Webster Ave and 6th Street, with tours starting at the City Barn (carriage house) every 20 minutes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. No registration is required.

This special event is exclusively for Muskegon County moms, while others can purchase tickets at the door: $15 for adults aged 12 and up, $12 for seniors, and $5 for children aged 2-12. Museum members get in free.
