Kick Off Spring with These Outdoor Events- Fox 17

Maple Row Sugarhouse; Michigan Maple Festival; March 16-17 and March 23-4; 9:00-4:00 Saturday and 10:00 – 4:00  on Sundays.

It’s such a shame that delicious maple syrup only comes but one season a year, and NOW it’s almost time, so you won’t want to miss it.  Maple Row Sugarhouse in Jones, all started as a sweet family affair back in 2011 with a mere 4 maple trees netting 5 gallons of syrup.  And from there, the operation grew and grew.  Today, it’s still a family affair with all 6 children involved in helping to produce loads of liquid gold that not only goes fab with pancakes, of course, but goes into all the maple products they sell. Speaking of pancakes, the Michigan Maple Festival held beginning next weekend the 16th will host a pancake eating contest, along with horse drawn wagon rides, free sugarhouse tours, live music, dances and a Civil War Camp.  Be sure to check out their website for the various dates and times when you can bring the family down for some of natures’ best, deliciously wholesome, sticky fun!

Stuart Avenue Inn: Irish Tea & Trivia– March 13th- 2-4pm

Green beer and lively dancing are fun, but if you prefer a quieter tribute to the culture and tradition of the Emerald Isle, this is the event for you. Join Stuart Avenue Inn in Kalamazoo for their Irish Tea & Trivia event on Wednesday, March 13th from 2 pm-4 pm. Immerse yourself in the rich Irish heritage as you indulge in traditional savories, sweets, and beverages, accompanied by a sprinkle of Irish trivia. Tea, the favored drink of the Irish (only challenged by Guinness), has made the republic one of the largest tea-consuming nations. Secure your reservation today for a delightful experience.

Crystal Mountain – March at the Mountain; Celts and Kayaks, March 16

Even St Patrick couldn’t find more green fun than this! On March 16, an entire ‘Celts and Kayaks’ Saturday at Crystal Mountain is devoted to shamrock shenanigans. Kayaks are provided for this thrilling down-the-mountain race, along with rentals of every sort for skiing, snowshoes, ice skates and fat tire bikes.  If you’re really brave (or really Celtic crazy!) you might want to fly down the mountain on boards or skis and plunge into an icy slush pond – which sounds a little like March madness to me. Reward your inner leprechaun with a delicious slopeside lunch on the patio, or send the kids out for a festive scavenger hunt.   Be sure to check the Crystal Mountain website for time and costs for the various activities which include; horse drawn surrey rides, glitter tattoos, a build-a-buddy workshop and outdoor laser tag, to name a few. So come on out to Crystal Mountain and ‘get your green on!’
