In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Muskegon Museum of Art is inviting the community to a free MLK Day Community Day on Monday, January 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s a meaningful and family-friendly way to spend the day, with opportunities to explore the galleries alongside Muskegon High School junior docents, take part in a hands-on MLK Day art project, enjoy a screening of the film Coldwater Kitchen, and join an interactive museum tour highlighting African American artists represented in the MMA permanent collection. From noon until 2 p.m., students from Muskegon High School’s AP Art class will serve as gallery docents, sharing the stories behind works they researched and selected from the museum’s permanent collection. Young visitors can also pick up a creative coloring activity inspired by the featured artwork, making it a fun and engaging experience for kids, too. And while you’re there, don’t miss your final chance to see Art Nouveau: Age of Elegance, on view through January 18. This special exhibition explores the influential art and design movement of the early 1900s, celebrating beauty, craftsmanship, and artistic expression woven into everyday life.
