Visit Southwest Michigan invites visitors and residents to experience the region’s vibrant arts scene through the ongoing Southwest Michigan Murals Challenge, returning for the 2026 season after two successful years.
Running through March 31, 2027, the Murals Challenge encourages participants to explore more than 30 colorful murals across Berrien and Cass counties, making it an ideal activity for weekend getaways and day trips.
As the region comes alive with warmer weather, blooming landscapes and lively downtowns, this year-round challenge offers a fresh way to experience Southwest Michigan’s creative communities, local culture and outdoor spaces.
How It Works:
-
Explore and Discover: Choose from 30+ mural locations to visit throughout Southwest Michigan, each showcasing unique stories and artistic styles.
-
Check-In and Capture: Use the Visit Southwest Michigan app to check in at mural sites by uploading a photo of yourself in front of each piece.
-
Earn Rewards: Check in at 10 murals to receive a $20 St. Joe Today gift card.
“With the continued success of the Murals Challenge, we’re excited to welcome even more visitors to explore Southwest Michigan in a creative and interactive way,” said Marcy Simpson, executive director of Visit Southwest Michigan. “Spring is the perfect time to kick off this year-round challenge that gives you a great reason to get outside, discover our communities and experience the incredible public art throughout the region.”
Visitors can center a day or weekend trip around discovering murals and adding to their list of check-ins while also enjoying nearby beaches, shops, restaurants and events. The challenge blends art, exploration and rewards into a memorable seasonal experience.
