Visit Southwest Michigan, formerly the Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council, has officially completed the purchase of the former United Federal Credit Union building in downtown St. Joseph, marking a significant milestone for the region's destination marketing organization.
"Closing on this building marks an exciting new chapter for Visit Southwest Michigan. As our organization continues to grow, this investment gives us a permanent home in the heart of one of the region's most vibrant downtowns and creates new opportunities to connect with visitors, partners and the communities we serve," said Marcy Simpson, executive director of Visit Southwest Michigan.
Located in the heart of downtown St. Joseph, at the center of the varied lodging options in St. Joseph, Stevensville and Benton Harbor, the building will serve as Visit Southwest Michigan's new headquarters while creating new opportunities to engage visitors, tourism partners and the local community. The organization expects to announce additional information about renovations, programming and the building's future use in the coming months.
"This is more than a move; it’s an investment in the future of tourism in Southwest Michigan. We see this building becoming a welcoming hub that showcases everything our region has to offer while strengthening relationships with our tourism partners, local businesses and residents. We're excited to share more as our plans continue to take shape," Simpson said.
The former United Federal Credit Union building has long been a familiar landmark in downtown St. Joseph. Visit Southwest Michigan looks forward to continuing its legacy as a place that welcomes people and celebrates the region while supporting tourism, economic development and community connections.
