Gravity Taphouse is doing something nostalgic, combined with spirited fun at their “Let’s Do It the Old Fashioned Way” pairing dinner on June 19th. The featured star here is the classic Old Fashioned cocktail but with many unique twists along the way in this 5-course chef-inspired menu. Start off this dining extravaganza with charcuterie and a quenching salted watermelon spritzer, then a course highlighted by smoky mezcal bourbon, ripe peaches, fennel, and mint, then move on to aged rye accentuated with smoky grits, crispy pork belly, and cajun shrimp. What about a beef fat-washed balcones brimstone perfectly paired with a grilled rib eye with cowboy butter? Even dessert gets in on the spirited action with an Espresso and Rum infused Old Fashioned alongside a chocolate chip cookie skillet, dripping with fudge and ice cream.
Lest We Forget. June 22, and 23; 80th Anniversary of D-Day and Battle of Normandy, 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 to 3:00 on Sunday.
Next weekend is the 80th Anniversary of WWII’s D-Day, and Lest We Forget, an organization that helps to preserve the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country is sponsoring an impressive lineup of events at Tiscornia Beach in St. Joseph. On June 22nd there will be a live reenactment of the battle with the Germans at Normandy Beach. It will all begin with the American Flag parachuting in through the skies, live music, and various planes roaring overhead. Then, seven different styles of WWII boats will land on the beaches with pyrotechnics blasting in the sand while live actors reenact the invasion. Not to glorify war, but to remind us all of the great sacrifices that were made for our freedom. Another live invasion will begin at 1:00 p.m. reenacting the battle with the Japanese. Afterward, drive over to the SW MI Regional Airport where there will be all sorts of military regalia with vehicles, equipment, and airplanes on display, along with helicopter, plane, and train rides, an obstacle course and climbing wall, weapons demonstrations, food trucks, and more.
