The iconic S.S. Badger is officially back on the water, marking the start of its 2026 sailing season. As the last coal-fired passenger steamship in operation in the United States, this National Historic Landmark has resumed its daily voyages across Lake Michigan between Ludington, Michigan, and Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

The 410-foot car ferry officially departed the Michigan port on May 15, marking the unofficial kickoff to summer along the West Michigan shoreline.

"The Badger is more than just a ferry; she represents a cherished maritime tradition and a relaxing, nostalgic travel experience for millions of passengers," said company spokesperson Thom Hawley. "We are thrilled to be back on the water and to welcome both new and returning travelers aboard for another memorable sailing season."
