Mackinac State Historic Parks will host a free, guided walk to Mackinac Island’s cemeteries on Thursday, September 19, starting at 5:00 p.m.
This evening walk through the island’s cemeteries will be led by Mackinac State Historic Parks’ Interpretation Coordinator Jack Swartzinski. During the tour Swartzinski will guide guests through the Catholic, Protestant, and Post Cemeteries, explaining the history of each and pointing out historic graves.
It is about a half mile to the cemeteries from Fort Mackinac. The starting point of the walk is the Fort Mackinac Avenue of Flags, behind Fort Mackinac, on Huron Road, and will conclude at the Fort Mackinac Post Cemetery. Participants are encouraged to wear good walking shoes and prepare for weather, as the tour will go rain or shine. Donations are welcome.
Support for many Mackinac State Historic Parks programs comes from Mackinac Associates, friends preserving and sharing Mackinac’s heritage.
