The Straits Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, in cooperation with Mackinac State Historic Parks, will formally dedicate a Liberty Tree in the Mackinac Island Peace Garden to commemorate the American Revolution on Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 p.m. This is a free event.

A plaque will be placed on the west side of the Peace Garden. Members of the Straits Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will make brief remarks and provide a color guard. A Fort Mackinac interpreter will be on hand as well.

The Mackinac Island Peace Garden was opened and dedicated in 2015 to celebrate 200 years of peace between the United States and Canada. The Peace Garden is located just below Fort Mackinac and next to The Richard & Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum in Marquette Park on Mackinac Island.

The Straits Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution was formed out of Harbor Springs in 2021. It encompasses the whole of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula. From the SAR website, the Sons of the American Revolution honors our Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving our communities and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our Country.
