Visit Southwest Michigan is bringing back the popular Shop & Shore Trolley for another summer season, offering free transportation between some of the region's most popular destinations from June 11 through September 7, 2026.
Following a successful inaugural season, the trolley returns with expanded access in Benton Harbor, making it easier than ever for visitors and residents to explore both communities while enjoying a unique and family-friendly experience.
"Based on the number of riders and the positive feedback, we consider the pilot season a success and have decided to bring it back this summer," said Marcy Simpson, Executive Director of Visit Southwest Michigan.
Planned stops include Silver Beach, two locations in downtown St. Joseph and a new stop on Graham Avenue in Benton Harbor. "We're really excited to expand this year," Simpson said. "Riders will be able to easily access Harbor Shores Golf Club, the new Wee Course, Renaissance Athletic Club, Third Coast Paddling and the Paw Paw River, as well as the Benton Harbor Arts District."
The trolley operates as a hop-on, hop-off service with no reservations required. Riders simply arrive at a designated stop and board when the trolley arrives. Route maps and schedules will be available online and through QR codes displayed on and inside the trolley.
Beyond its convenience, the trolley has become an attraction in its own right.
"It's a whole experience in itself," Simpson said. "Children love the trolley – actually, people of all ages love the trolley. And one of the very best parts about the trolley is it's absolutely free to ride.”
In addition to the summer route, Visit Southwest Michigan plans to continue expanding its themed trolley experiences throughout the year. Building on the success of special Mother's Day and Blossomtime rides, the organization is exploring additional seasonal offerings, including a fall-themed "Spooky Trolley" and the return of a holiday "Jolly Trolley."
"A lot of fun things are on the horizon for the trolley, and we're really excited," Simpson said. "We encourage everyone to come out and ride and take part in it."
Although rides are free, driver gratuity is appreciated, and donations and sponsorship support help keep the program running, Simpson noted. "It has truly taken a team effort to bring the trolley back and continue growing the program. We're grateful for the support of Holt Bosse, Miller Johnson Schroeder, PLC, Harbor Shores Golf Club, United Federal Credit Union, the City of St. Joseph and St. Joe Today. Their partnership helps make this free community resource possible."
