Paddle Antrim is thrilled to host the 10th Annual Paddle Antrim Festival, a signature Northern Michigan celebration of paddling, community, and stewardship. The Festival returns September 11–13, 2025, inviting paddlers of all experience levels to explore the stunning Chain of Lakes Water Trail—the only Pure Michigan-designated water trail in the state.
Held each year on the second weekend after Labor Day, this one-of-a-kind event offers a flexible, non-competitive paddle with options to complete anywhere from 7 to all 42 miles over two days. Whether you're paddling a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, all are welcome. With shuttles included, paddlers can focus on the water, not the logistics.
“The Paddle Antrim Festival is for everyone,” says Deana Jerdee, Executive Director of Paddle Antrim. “It’s about connecting with nature, enjoying the beauty of the water trail at your own pace, and celebrating the waterways and people that make this region so special.”
The weekend kicks off Thursday, September 11, with paddler check-in and a Kickoff Party at Ellsworth River Park, hosted by the Village of Ellsworth.
- Friday, September 12: Paddlers launch from Ellsworth and can travel up to 15 miles, with a lunch stop in Central Lake at mile 7, where they can finish for the day or continue on to Richardi Park in Bellaire. The day ends with a Block Party at Short’s Brewing Company’s Bellaire Beer Garden.
- Saturday, September 13: Paddlers journey from Bellaire to Elk Rapids through the Lower Chain with an option to paddle 9 – 27 miles. The event finishes with the Final Bash at Short’s Pull Barn, featuring food, drinks, and camaraderie.
Commitment to Water Stewardship
As part of its mission to protect the waterways, Paddle Antrim is partnering with Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, who will be present at the Kickoff Party and Day 1 launch with their mobile boat wash station. All paddle crafts will be cleaned before entering the water to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species, reinforcing Paddle Antrim’s commitment to long-term waterway stewardship. This effort also helps educate paddlers on the importance of cleaning their boats when moving between waterways.
Call for Volunteers
As the Festival grows, volunteers are essential to its success. Paddle Antrim is currently seeking:
- Motorized Support Boat Volunteers to serve as “eyes on the water”and mark the route.
- Shoreline Volunteers to assist with tasks like registration, paddler support, and paddle craft handling.
“This is a great opportunity to be part of something meaningful—whether you’re on the water or cheering from shore,” Jerdee adds. “Volunteers are truly the heart of this event.”
