This summer, Muskegon County is coming together in a powerful and unforgettable way to honor the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War II. From may through September 2025, museums and attractions across the region will launch a series of commemorative exhibits, events, and tours that not only pay tribute to the Greatest Generation but also bring to life Muskegon’s significant role in the war effort.

Under the theme “From Arsenal of Democracy to Arsenal of Remembrance” this multi-organization collaboration offers a rich, immersive experience for all ages. Whether you’re a history buff, a family looking for meaningful summer activities, or someone simply curious about how WWII shaped our community, there’s something for everyone.

Why This Anniversary Matters

Eighty years ago, the world emerged from a global conflict that changed the course of history. World War II ended in 1945, but its legacy remains etched into the fabric of our nation - and nowhere is that more evident than in Muskegon. Local factories produced war supplies, our citizens served both at home and abroad, and West Michigan’s shoreline saw the movement of ships and goods critical to Allied victory. This anniversary offers a chance to reflect, learn, and say thank you.
