Step back in time as historic Marshall celebrates a major milestone: its 60th annual Historic Home Tour. From September 6-7, visitors can
immerse themselves in the town's 19th-century charm, enjoying a rare glimpse inside
seven beautifully preserved homes that showcase Marshall's unique architectural
heritage and tell the story of its past.
This year's tour is a true treasure trove, featuring homes in distinct architectural styles,
including Greek Revival, Farmhouse, Queen Anne, Octagonal Italianate, and a
charming bungalow cottage. The experience will be enhanced with musical
entertainment performed at various locations throughout the tour.
It is important to note that this is a self-driving tour. There will be no bus transportation,
but detailed maps with directions are included in the ticket booklet to guide you.
In addition to the home tour, the weekend is packed with activities for all to enjoy.
As part of the Home Tour experience, all museums will be open for visitors. Entry to the
Honolulu House Museum, the Marshall Historical Museum, the Capitol Hill
Schoolhouse Museum, the American Museum of Magic, and the Governor’s
Mansion is free with a Home Tour ticket. These museums are a cornerstone of the
Historical Society's mission to preserve the city's heritage and offer an excellent
opportunity to learn more about Marshall's history.
Returning this year are visitor favorites, so be sure to set aside time to enjoy these
wonderful opportunities:
Art at the Museum: Returning for its 12th year, this juried art show will be held on
the lawn of the historic Honolulu House Museum, located at 107 N Kalamazoo
Ave. The show runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. Visitors can browse a wide variety of original, handcrafted artwork from
talented Michigan artists, including everything from pottery and fused glass to
candles, woodworking, and Petoskey stone picture frames.
The Vintage Market: The Vintage Market is back and will take place rain or shine
around the Kellogg Community Credit Union at 107 N. Park Ave. from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. You'll find all kinds of vintage
items, antiques, garden decorations, and one-of-a-kind treasures. Live music and
food trucks will also be on-site to enjoy while you browse.
Honolulu House Ball of 1865: This special event will take place at 6 p.m. on
Saturday, September 6, right after the home tour and is free to attend. Guests
can gather outdoors in front of the Honolulu House Museum for an evening of
dancing with light refreshments and music. Historic costumes are only required
for the first dance, so everyone is welcome to join in the festive atmosphere.
Stained Glass Window Tour: On Saturday night from 9 to 10 p.m., you can
experience the beauty of Trinity Episcopal Church's stained-glass windows. A
reception with hors d’oeuvres, wine, and punch will begin at 8:30 p.m. The
second annual tour will be led by Brooks Grantier, who will share the history of
the windows and the artisans who created them.
Marshall Area Farmers Market: Get an early start on Saturday, September 6,
from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 124 W. Green St. The market offers a wide variety of
local and fresh products.
The Historic Home Tour is the primary fundraiser for the Marshall Historical Society. All
proceeds from the event help to maintain and preserve its three museums: the
magnificent Honolulu House, the Marshall Historical Museum, and the Capitol Hill
Schoolhouse Museum.
