Discover the magic of Mackinac Island bathed in moonlight during a special full moon hike led by Mackinac State Historic Parks Naturalist Kyle Bagnall.

Join us on this enchanting evening walk to Fort Holmes, the highest point on Mackinac Island, on Saturday, August 9, starting at 8:45 p.m. The journey begins at the Avenue of Flags, just behind Fort Mackinac, where participants will gather before setting out on a guided, one-mile stroll along paved roads.

Along the way, Bagnall will share stories and insights about the island’s natural and cultural history. The walk culminates with a breathtaking view of the full moon rising over Lake Huron, casting its glow across the island and surrounding waters.

Participants should wear sturdy walking shoes and are encouraged to bring a flashlight for the return hike. The total walking distance is approximately two miles roundtrip, and guests must be physically able to complete the walk in low light conditions.

This free event offers a peaceful and memorable way to experience the island after dark. This is a free event, and no registration is required. Many Mackinac State Historic Parks programs are funded in part by Mackinac Associates, friends preserving and sharing Mackinac’s heritage.
