Mark Ware and Liz Ware, the dynamic brother-sister duo behind Mission Point Resort, have long been recognized for their unwavering commitment to Michigan’s economy, hospitality industry, and small business community. In 2025 their leadership extends beyond the shores of Mackinac Island, as both were elected to serve as Treasurer to the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) and the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association (MRLA). We all look forward to their continued contributions to Michigan's economic development.”
"Liz embodies the spirit of Michigan hospitality through her leadership at Mission Point Resort and her unwavering advocacy for our industry. Her passionate work to secure Pure Michigan funding, maintain the strength of the Women in Hospitality Leadership initiative, and strengthen tourism across the state among an endless list of other roles has made a lasting impact,” said Justin Winslow, President & CEO, Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association. “As our newly elected Treasurer, Liz brings both operational excellence and strategic vision to MRLA. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated industry champion helping guide our association's future."
As stewards of one of Michigan’s premier resorts, Mark and Liz, along with their brother DJ, have dedicated themselves to preserving and enhancing Mission Point Resort, ensuring that guests experience the rich history and natural beauty of Mackinac Island. Their efforts have earned them accolades such as the Hospitality Stars of the Year Award from the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association (MRLA), recognizing their exceptional contributions to the industry.
Beyond hospitality, Mark has played a significant role in advocating for small businesses across Michigan with SBAM and was a finalist for the National Small Business Advocate Award. He serves as the President of the Mackinac Arts Council, is on the Mackinac Island Housing Authority and is a volleyball coach for the Mackinac Island high school girls' team winning the Mackinac Island Volunteer of the Year in 2024.
Liz Ware, known for her visionary marketing and guest experience strategies, helped create the MRLA’s Women in Hospitality Leadership Conference and was appointed by the governor to the Michigan Travel Commission. She was instrumental in the creation of the Michigan Hospitality and Tourism Alliance and sits on its board of directors. She also serves on the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau and Mackinac Arts Council boards and proudly serves as the Honorary Chief of Mackinac Island’s Fire Department of which there have only been three in its 200-year history.
Their belief in involvement reflects the Wares' broader philosophy: that leadership is not just about success in business but about giving back and fostering opportunities for future generations.
“Ours is a Pure Michigan story. After visiting Mackinac, we moved here from Illinois and California to the state where our father was born, invested, and built a renowned family owned and operated business. In doing so, it became clear that our family’s involvement in broader issues in the community and in the state was something we wanted to be a part of.” said Liz.
"Michigan has given us so much. My sister and I feel a deep responsibility to give back through our work at Mission Point, our advocacy for small businesses, the hospitality and travel industry and our support for community initiatives," said Mark Ware.
With their combined expertise in hospitality, business advocacy, and community leadership, Mark and Liz Ware continue to shape the future of Michigan. Whether through Mission Point Resort, their work with SBAM and MRLA, or their personal commitments to mentorship and advocacy, they remain steadfast in their mission to elevate the state they love.
