Join in this community celebration honoring veterans and their families as the Southshore Concert Band, led by Dale Reuss with emcee Jeff Whitaker and Lest We Forget, present their annual Veterans Day Patriotic Concert on Sunday, November 8th at 2:00 pm at Lake Michigan College Mendel Center in Benton Harbor. This is a free event.
The 78 members of the Southshore Band will be featuring traditional patriotic songs and salutes for the branches of the service. The theme for the concert, An American Portrait, is designed to musically assert our American ideals through the performance by the Southshore Concert Band, including instrumental, vocal and visual selections. The men and women who have sacrificed to protect and defend our American ideals as members of the United States military forces will be remembered and honored throughout the program. It will include a Tribute to all Lest We Forget members who have passed on by showing their photographs during the singing of "The Mansions of the Lord."

Special Guest Performer is Sergeant Major (SGM) Robert Cherry, a proud graduate from Bridgman High School. He has served as Principal Horn of the U.S. Army Field Band, Element Leader for the Concert Band and a member of The U.S. Army Field Band Brass Quintet. He also served as Principal Horn of the Southwest Michigan Symphony, the Elkhart Symphony, Assistant Principal of the South Bend Symphony and was a Contributing Artist at the 2001 and 2003 International Horn Society Symposiums. He has held contracted positions with numerous orchestras in Michigan, Indiana, |
Illinois, and Kentucky. As a Bloomington Camerata Scholar, SGM Cherry earned a Performer’s Certificate from Indiana University. He also earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Western Michigan
University, where he was both a Medallion and Presidential Scholar. His teachers include Loretta Kramer, Johnny Pherigo, Paul Austin, and Michael Hatfield. SGM Cherry began his musical journey under the direction of Dale Reuss and owes every bit of his 30+ year career to those beginnings!
SGT Cherry will perform Horn Concerto No. 3, 1st Movement by Mozart and Wingspan for Solo Horn by Kuo.
