This Father’s Day, the Hackley and Hume Historic Site invites Muskegon County dads to enjoy a special afternoon of history and celebration.

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 1–4 p.m., fathers who reside in Muskegon County will receive free admission to tour the Hackley and Hume Historic Site, the Fire Barn Museum, and the Scolnik House of the Depression Era. Regular admission rates apply for other visitors.

Make memories as you tour the houses of Charles Hackley and Thomas Hume while exploring the rich history of Muskegon’s lumber boom era and beyond. Built in the late 1800s, these Queen Anne homes have been beautifully restored, showcasing intricate wood carving, stained glass, stenciled walls and ceilings, some original furniture, and family possessions. Then, stop by the Fire Barn Museum to discover Muskegon’s firefighting past, rooted in Hackley’s legacy of civic generosity. Visit the Scolnik House of the Depression Era, which offers a poignant look into the resilience of local families during one of America’s most challenging economic times.

“Father’s Day is the perfect time to explore Muskegon’s history together,” said Historic Sites Director Erin Schmitz. “We’re proud to offer free admission to Muskegon County dads and create an experience that blends family time with a deeper appreciation of our community’s past.”

Check in at the City Barn (carriage house) located behind the Hackley and Hume Historic Site. Tours depart every 20 minutes beginning at 1 p.m., with the last tour leaving at 4 p.m. Free parking is available on Webster Avenue and 6th Street.
