Material World: Ten Women, Muskegon Museum of Art, Now through August 23rd
If you're looking for something a little different to experience in West Michigan, make plans to visit the Muskegon Museum of Art for Material World: Ten Women, through August 23. This fascinating exhibition features the work of ten women artists who use non-traditional materials — or traditional materials in completely unexpected ways. You'll see everything from metal wire woven together with crochet, to steel rods transformed into animals and vessels. Paintings are cut apart and reassembled on a loom, birch bark is arranged into intricate geometric designs, and quilts become three-dimensional sculptures and drawings. This is a creative, surprising and inspiring exhibition that shows just how many ways everyday materials can become works of art.
