This holiday season, enjoy the warmth and charm of Victorian Christmas traditions at the
Hackley and Hume Houses. The Muskegon Historic Sites of the Lakeshore Museum
Center invites you to join our Holiday Tours, a festive event that combines historical
insight, hands-on activities, and a unique opportunity to select your perfect Christmas tree.
Our annual celebration begins with a kickoff event on Saturday, November 30, from 3-7
p.m. Visitors will have the chance to decorate ornaments and postcards, pose for
memorable photos in an authentic carriage, and explore the decorated interiors of the
Hackley and Hume Houses. As you wander through these historic homes, you'll step back
in time to experience the holiday spirit as it was celebrated in the Victorian era.
In addition to exploring the houses, guests can visit Perry’s Pines in the courtyard, where a
selection of Christmas trees and wreaths will be available for purchase throughout the
season. This tradition of community and celebration extends to the decoration of the
houses themselves. Since 1972, community groups have ‘adopted’ rooms to decorate,
and we're inviting you, our visitors, again to vote for your favorite decorated room this year.
Admission includes two free voting tickets, with the option to purchase additional votes in
the gift shop for $1 per ticket or 6 for $5. Voting concludes on December 28, allowing
everyone ample time to participate in this interactive element of our Holiday Tours.
The tours will be available on the following dates from 3-7 p.m., offering walk-through
experiences where visitors can admire the holiday decorations and feel the historical
ambiance of the Hackley and Hume Houses:
● Saturday, December 7
● Saturday, December 14
● Saturday, December 21
● Tuesday, December 27
● Wednesday, December 28
Admission prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors aged 65 and over, and $5 for children
aged 3 to 12. Museum members enjoy complimentary admission. Tickets are available at
the door on the day of the event.
