The all-new De Tuin Klas beginner gardening series continues at Windmill Island Gardens
next Thursday, June 18 where participants can learn all about starting their own vegetable gardens! In
partnership with the Michigan State University Extension, Windmill Island Gardens is excited to host a
variety of classes covering topics like starting a vegetable garden, design tips, preserving and canning,
trees, and so much more. Learn from the experts at these once a month classes through October on the
third Thursday of each month from 6:00pm – 7:30pm for just $15 a class!

Get ready to dig-into gardening at home with Windmill Island Gardens Grounds and Horticulture
Manager, Emily Van Staalduinen and husband Parker Barnes! This class will guide participants in
learning the when, where, and how’s of planting vegetables along with some tips to care for your plants
throughout the growing season, check out our Community Garden (de Gezellige Tuin), and even take
home some vegetable seedlings grown right here at Windmill Island Gardens to get your garden started!
Class hosts will teach the basics of getting your garden spaces ready for success, even with limited
space, so you can enjoy the fruits (or vegetables) of your labor! Who doesn’t love the taste of fresh grown
vegetables in your summer meals? “Whether you’re starting from seed or looking to dig deeper, this class
will help you put down roots in the garden!” Says Parker Barnes.

De Tuin Klas: Garden to Table will be held at Windmill Island Gardens in the white Celebration Pavilion (1
