The annual Art on the Island Gala will be back this Thursday, September 3 from 6pm – 8pm at Windmill Island Gardens! Local artists have submitted works of art that capture the beauty of Windmill Island Gardens in categories of Plein Air, Canvas & Paper Works, and Mixed Media & Dimensional Works. The 2026 Art on the Island is proudly sponsored by Fris Supply Shop.
This year’s Art on the Island Gala Judge is Eden Collins, a professor at Hope College currently teaching Ceramics and 3D Design. All submitted artwork is eligible for cash prizes awarded to first and second placing pieces in each category, as well as a judge’s ‘Best of Show’, and a community vote for ‘People’s Choice’. Winners will be announced during the Gala event in September where all artwork will be offered for sale to the public. Some of the pieces that are not purchased during the gala will be left on display at Windmill Island Gardens to view and purchase until September 25.
Admission to the Gala is free with a variety of light appetizers provided by local caterers, and a cash bar can also be enjoyed offering locally made beer and wine for purchase. Visitors are invited to enjoy the beautiful scenery during the event, meet many of the artists, and purchase beautiful artwork to take home if they see a piece they love!
"Fris is proud to sponsor the Art on the Island Gala,” shares Fris Supply Shop Owner, Andrew Fris. “We are excited to see the beauty of Windmill Island through the eyes of all the talented local artists and see their work showcased at the event."
