The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is located in Augusta, MI, 14 miles north of Kalamazoo and 12 miles west of Battle Creek. Established in 1927 by cereal pioneer W.K. Kellogg as a refuge for migratory birds, the Sanctuary is now owned and operated by Michigan State University. Birds of prey enclosures featuring both rare and common raptors, including a Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, Eastern Screech Owl and more. The Leslie E. Bird-friendly demonstration gardens including a Pollinator Garden designed to attract butterflies and hummingbirds. The Sanctuary offers two miles of walking trails in various birding habitats. Visitors can borrow binoculars and field guides from the Sanctuary free of charge. Four geocaches are hidden throughout the property. A large public picnic area is available for group lunches.
