Oryana Natural Foods Market is your source for local, organic and natural food. We carry the region's largest selection of locally-sourced goods, from organic chocolate to locally-roasted, fair-trade coffees to naturally leavened breads, to body care products. Oryana also provides the region's widest selection of fresh organic and locally-grown produce.

Oryana's Lake Street Cafe offers fresh espresso, juice and smoothies, made-to-order sandwiches and salads, and fresh baked goods. We offer a great variety of vegetarian, vegan and meat sandwiches. For those in a hurry, the grab-and-go case features many tasty choices. Oryana uses organic, fair-trade and local ingredients whenever possible and strive to offer convenient, delicious and healthy food choices. Take your food to go or relax in the Cafe and listen to live music by local musicians.

Things certainly have changed since Oryana opened in 1973. What began as a small group of families distributing sacks of brown rice and oats from a Traverse City back porch has grown into Northern Michigan's only certified organic retailer. As a community cooperative owned by our 6,500 members, we have a large and growing customer base and full line of high-quality grocery products produced in ecologically sound ways. Oryana is open to the public.

Despite Oryana's dramatic evolution, the store remains committed to good food, including locally produced products. In addition to many produce items grown on local family farms, Oryana carries eggs, milk, cheese, jams, soaps, candles, and more, all produced by local farmers, artisans and small companies.

Oryana was the first food co-op in the country to be designated a Certified Organic Retailer, which means: all organic products are in compliance with the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) final rule on organics, implementing protocols to insure no commingling with nonorganic product, and that our employees are properly trained in the handling of organic product. By taking these extra steps, Oryana ensures that the chain of organic integrity is preserved.
