We think everyone in the world should get to read and write. Every year on World Read Aloud Day, people all around the globe read aloud together and share stories to advocate for literacy as a human right that belongs to all people. Did you know: 750 million adults around the world—two thirds of them women—lack basic reading and writing skills. Reading aloud to children every day puts them almost a year ahead of children who do not receive daily read alouds. 66% of kids ages 6-11 say that reading together is fun! The Big Rapids Community Library will lead StoryWalk tours on the hour from 11am to 4pm. Each participant will get a certificate for completing the StoryWalk. They will also have PopUp Read Alouds throughout the day. Come join in the fun — and be sure to read aloud at home, too!
