Join us for a presentation by Dr. Cox, a non-resident Fellow at Harvard University's Hutchins Center for African and African American Research. Her original research underpinned two exhibits at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. Her new book, The Bone and Sinew of the Land, was praised by Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. as “a revelation of primary historical research that is written with the beauty and empathic powers of a novel.”
Prior to the 7:00 PM presentation, we will have an optional cocktail reception in the Museum's Upper Gallery. From 5:00-6:45, we invite you to sip a drink and browse our collection and mingle! This special event is being organized to kick-off the opening of our new temporary Exhibition, "Proclaiming Emancipation."
As a highlight, we will be joined by reenactors from the 102nd United States Colored Troops Company B, Black History Group!
You may purchase copies of the book for signing during the event, managed by FOREVER BOOKS.
