Avoid the winter blues and be a part of an eventful season at Crystal Mountain

If you’re looking to try something new in 2022, all while embracing northern Michigan’s winter wonderland, Crystal Mountain has you covered. From beginner lessons to advanced races, the Crystal calendar is full of activities sure to get you through to spring.

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month! Book a family lesson, private lesson or group lesson to match your ability and learn the basics or advance your skills with some of the best professional instructors around. Lessons are available all season long.

“A lot of people are tempted to learn to ski and ride from a family member or friend, which could be fun or it could be more frustrating than it needs to be,” Joanna Tomei, snowsports operations manager, said. “Our instructors are highly trained and have a lot of experience in teaching people how to become comfortable on the mountain, even before they get to the chairlift.”

For those who are more comfortable on flat land, take a spin on a fat tire bike, glide along on a pair of cross country skis or step through a hike wearing snowshoes. To celebrate World Snow Day on Jan. 16, Crystal is offering free introductory presentations on snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and skiing, as well as other activities throughout the long holiday weekend.

The legendary Iron Fish Distillery Fat Chance Fat Tire Bike Race returns to Crystal Mountain this year, but will take place on a new course near the new Cross Country Center. The fresh route will offer spectators a 360 degree view of the 90-minute race. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category.

Feeling inspired by the 2022 Olympic Winter Games? Sign up for Crystal Mountain’s Airsoft Biathlon on Feb. 13. The competition combines the endurance of cross country skiing and precision of hitting three targets with an airsoft gun along a one-mile long loop. Ages 8 and older are welcome to register until Feb. 12.

In addition to daily activities, here are some other events to expect at Crystal Mountain this season:

  • Live music in the Vista Lounge
  • Live music in the Slopeside Tent
  • Free skiing for 4th & 5th graders with the Cold is Cool Passport on MSIA App
  • Fat Bike Tours
  • Valentine’s Day specials

THANK YOU to our snowmaking team! Their amazing efforts are the reason we’re skiing and riding. Show our snowmakers some love by voting for Crystal Mountain in this winter’s I Am a Snowmaker contest presented by SAM Magazine (Ski Area Management). Voting ends Jan.21 and the winner will be announced on Jan. 24. Crystal mountain is the only Midwest ski resort in the competition.
