Michigan Irish Music Festival - September 14th - 11:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.  & September 15th - 10:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • Today and tomorrow are the last two days of the Michigan Irish Music Festival in Muskegon. And you don't have to be Irish to love this amazing festival. Heritage Landing and its beautiful lakeside setting are home to six tented music stages playing nonstop Irish music, which is so inspiring you’ll dance as if no one is watching! This is a Festival that celebrates all things Irish - so, be sure to visit the Irish Store, learn to play the tin whistle, enjoy lively Irish dance, listen to poetry, folklore, and legends, design your coat of arms, or take the kids to the Wee One’s area. There’s plenty to eat and drink at The Celtic Kitchen, which serves corned beef, bangers and mash, and loads of other festival food. The  Irish Pubs will quench your thirst with a fair pint or two, or purchase tickets for the 60-minute full-on whiskey-tasting experience. And my favorite part of this festival? Kilt Watching!  There will be plenty of that. And maybe some leprechauns too!

Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum; Women Inspired by Nature Art Exhibition, now through September 28

  • There is a really special museum in South Haven that celebrates the ‘Father of Modern Horticulture;’ - a man known as Liberty Hyde Bailey, Jr.  But, more than just a museum, it is a national historic site, a garden, park, and educational outreach center too. If you've never been, this month is the ideal time to stroll the grounds and museum and view their current art exhibition titled, Women Inspired by Nature.  All of these pieces are creative and inspiring, to say the least, and provide the perfect backdrop to the wonder of nature all around us. The Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum is open Wednesday thru Saturday from 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

Allegan County Fair - September 13 & 14; opens at 8:00 a.m.

  • It’s finally here - the ever-popular Allegan County Fair, so you won’t want to miss these last days - today and tomorrow - to join in on good old-fashioned family fun for these last days of summer. People watching is always a great fair activity, but so is strolling through all the animal livestock exhibition barns, and seeing firsthand the hard work and creativity of loads of 4-H’ers. You can still purchase tickets for tonight's Oliver Anthony Music - the ‘Out of the Woods’ tour or tomorrow’s loud and crazy Demolition Derby. And what would a fair be without the colorful lights bells, whistles, and blaring music of a giant midway carnival? Purchase a wristband for $30.00 and ride as long as you want and as many times as your stomach allows. Be sure to come hungry because there will be lots and lots of delicious fair food and beer and wine to choose from. Fair tickets are $10.00 for Adults and $5.00 for youth, and parking is $5.00.
