What to See While You’re Here:
Material World: Ten Women – Sunday will be your last chance to see this invitational exhibition organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art, featuring women artists working with non-traditional materials or using traditional materials in non-traditional ways. The exhibition highlights the use of the physical characteristics of material and technique as a component of both visual and conceptual themes.
HerStory of Animation: Mary Blair & Beyond – This exhibition re-defines our collected animated past by revealing the story of unsung forces of animation: women. In a first-of-its-kind show, women’s contributions to the animated art form are explored from earliest pre-cinematic forms in ceramic narratives and magic lanterns, to a century of hand-drawn, stop motion, and experimental animation.
The Bennett Collection - Established by Steven Alan Bennett and Dr. Elaine Melotti-Schmidt, The Bennett Collection celebrates historic and contemporary women figurative realist painters. It is Steven and Elaine’s hope that their Collection will encourage women painters to pursue figurative realism and likewise encourage others to collect work by women.
MMA Permanent Collection - The Muskegon Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection began in 1911, a year before the museum was even built. Since then, the MMA has collected over 5,000 works of art and continues to add more each year. The collection includes a diverse range of historical American and European art, as well as contemporary works by up-and-coming artists of today.
