The Michigan State University Extension is pleased to present Smart Gardening Presentations at Windmill Island Gardens this Fall about Native Perennials and
Bulbs! Each evening class, paired with popcorn and cider, will be held rain or shine inside
the Celebration Pavilion, or inside the Posthouse if weather requires, from 6:00pm – 7:30pm
on Wednesdays October 2, and October 9. Classes have a $10 fee that helps fund the
Smart Pollinator Garden maintained by the MSU Extension and MSU Extension Master
Gardener Volunteers. The pollinator garden showcases a plethora of blooming plants that
entice and nurture pollinators all season long. Explore and enjoy this educational display
located at Windmill Island Gardens.
On Wednesday, October 2, you can join the MSU Extension and retired Senior Horticulture
Educator, Rebecca Finneran, to learn all about Native Perennials in Michigan! Learn about
a curated selection of garden-worthy native herbaceous perennials that you can find from
local nurseries or specialty mail-order companies. Everyone will be sure to find at least one
must-have new addition for their garden! The deadline to register for this class is Monday,
September 30.
On Wednesday, October 9, you can join the MSU Extension and retired Senior Horticulture
Educator, Rebecca Finneran, again to learn all about a plethora of bulbs available to
gardeners today! Finneran will discuss both native and exotic bulb options that can add
cheerful color and interesting textures to your garden throughout the seasons. You’ll even
get a free bulb to plant in your garden at the end of this class! The deadline to register for
this class is Monday, October 7.
