Calling all surf lovers, paddlers, yogis, and beach bums—Muskegon’s shoreline is calling! The Great Lakes Surf Festival is a celebration of surf culture right here in West Michigan. Whether you're a seasoned surfer or totally new to the waves, this event is the perfect excuse to hit the beach.

Expect live music, board demos, yoga sessions, surf-themed art, and even lessons available with advance registration (don’t miss the August 7 deadline!). The setting? The stunning shores of Pere Marquette Beach, where Lake Michigan sets the scene for a day of adventure and laid-back fun.

Local Tip: Bring your own gear if you’ve got it—or rent on site. And don’t forget the sunscreen!

2. Set Sail for Adventure at the Boyne City Pirate Fest

📍 Boyne City
🗓 August 6–9, 2025

Grab your eyepatch and gather your crew—the pirates are taking over Boyne City! The annual Boyne City Pirate Fest is a family-friendly event that turns this charming lakeside town into a high-seas adventure for three unforgettable days.

The festival features a pirate parade, live performances, stilt walkers, escape artists, treasure hunts, and a pirate flotilla complete with a mighty schooner. Kids will love the interactive games and balloon art, while adults can enjoy live entertainment, local food vendors, and festive vibes around every corner.

Pro Tip: Costumes are encouraged! Whether you’re going full Jack Sparrow or just donning a bandana, you’ll fit right in.

3. Kick Off Your Shoes at the Burning Foot Beer Festival

📍 Pere Marquette Park, Muskegon
🗓 Saturday, August 23, 2025

If you’ve never sipped a local brew with your toes in the sand, now’s your chance. The Burning Foot Beer Festival is one of West Michigan’s most anticipated summer events—mixing the best of craft beer culture with unbeatable beachfront views.

Over 100 craft brewers from the Great Lakes region come together at Pere Marquette Park for this barefoot-friendly bash. The event includes live music from national and local artists, gourmet food trucks, a beachfront campfire, and even overnight camping options.

It’s a celebration of summer, beer, and community—all set against the backdrop of a Lake Michigan sunset.

Know Before You Go: Tickets often sell out, so plan ahead! This is a 21+ event, and designated drivers are welcome (and appreciated!).
