Drawn from Nature, a new exhibit about the art and science of observing the natural world, is now open at the Muskegon Museum of History and Science. The exhibit runs through April 3, 2027.

Drawn from Nature brings together natural history illustrations, taxidermy mounts, fossils, shells, and insect specimens, offering visitors a chance to explore the artistry and science behind the natural world. The exhibit invites visitors to engage their senses and curiosity in hands-on ways, like sketching like a naturalist and putting their observation skills to the test, or channeling their inner scientist by examining slides under a microscope.

"Nature has always been one of our greatest teachers, and this exhibit gives visitors the chance to explore it the way early naturalists did, before cameras, through careful observation, drawing, and hands-on discovery," said Exhibits Manager and Designer Chani Collins. "Whether you're sketching a specimen for the first time or studying a slide under a microscope, Drawn from Nature invites guests of all ages to slow down and see the natural world up close."

From detailed illustrations to specimens drawn straight from the collection, Drawn from Nature offers something for budding scientists, artists, and curious minds alike.

Drawn from Nature is included with regular museum admission, which is free for Lakeshore Museum Center members and Muskegon County residents and $5 for out-of-county residents. The Muskegon Museum of History and Science is located at 430 W. Clay Ave. in Muskegon and is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
