RIO Gift Shop Reopened December 9, 2025 with Amazon Just Walk Out Technology
The reopening of the RIO gift shop on December 9 introduced one of the region’s most innovative retail experiences. Powered by Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, RIO offers guests a seamless, checkout-free grab-and-go option, making it the first location in West Michigan and the second in the state to feature this advancement. Prior to RIO’s opening, the closest installation of this technology was at the Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit. This launch also served as a key step for Greenleaf Hospitality Group trialing similar technology that may be implemented at the Kalamazoo Event Center.
“These openings represent more than new amenities. They mark the culmination of a multi-year transformation that began in 2020,” said Craig Davies, Chief Operating Officer of Facilities for Greenleaf Hospitality Group. “Each phase was designed to elevate the guest experience, and seeing it all come together in 2025 has been incredibly rewarding as we look ahead to what’s next for GHG and downtown Kalamazoo.”
These latest amenity enhancements serve as a milestone moment of the multi-year investment in the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites, following the floor-to-ceiling renovation of guest rooms and the refresh of meeting and social spaces that began in 2020. Together, these updates reflect a continued commitment to investing in downtown Kalamazoo. Supporting a bright future for both travelers and locals by creating elevated, welcoming spaces that connect the community and enhance the guest experience.
