The Muskegon Museum of History and Science is proud to announce the opening of a brand-new permanent gallery, Muskegon County History. This dynamic space will showcase the depth and diversity of the region’s past through rotating exhibits that highlight the stories, landscapes, and people who have shaped the Muskegon community.

Kicking off the gallery’s debut is the stunning photographic installation Mosaic Muskegon by local artist and photographer William Hansen. The exhibit offers a compelling visual exploration of Muskegon County as you’ve never seen it before. Over 18 months, Hansen captured more than 43,000 images from across the region. These photographs were meticulously layered and stitched together to create over 2,200 mosaic-style compositions, each a vivid, detailed tribute to a specific place and moment in time.

“This exhibit is truly a celebration of Muskegon County. It captures not just what our community looks like, but what it feels like to be here,” said Melissa Horton, Executive Director of the Lakeshore Museum Center. “We’re thrilled to welcome guests into this new space and share these powerful images that reflect our shared story.”

The exhibit and new gallery will officially open to the public on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Muskegon Museum of History and Science. Admission is free for Muskegon County residents and museum members, with a $5 admission fee for out-of-county guests. RSVPs are currently being accepted by email at marci@lakeshoremuseum.org or by phone at 231-724-5544.
