Each year, the historical fairgrounds (which is 175 years old!) under the direction of the CCAIS (a non-profit organization) hosts a mile long drive-thru light display. This annual event brings joy to all who experience the lights, displays, featured activities and musical scenes.
Special events include the Eggnog Jog (sign up is on our website) on Wednesday December 4th, and it is the only time you can walk through the event. St. Nick himself as Santa will be here that night, as well as Saturdays, December 7th, 14th & 21st from 6:00-8:30 p.m. in Floral Hall (park on west end and enter by main gate). The live nativity will be here Friday & Saturday night December 13th & 14th from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., and you can listen to 101.9 for the story as you drive through or visit Floral Hall and observe the pageant from the North wing. All activities in Floral Hall and live nativity are free.
The route starts at the fair entrance underneath a tunnel full of lights and you tune into radio station 101.9 to hear Christmas music to accompany your drive. As your vehicle winds slowly through the mile long fairgrounds, the displays will sparkle and seem to bring the magic of the Christmas season and visitors can reminisce about their favorite memories and stories. On the Southeast end, watch the lights dance to the Christmas songs in the “Music Scene.” This is the highlight of the event coordinator, volunteers, and staff.
Those who have visited have driven far and wide throughout Michigan and Indiana. Comments from patrons include “this is our 2nd or 3rd time this year”, “our pets love the lights”, “our family makes an evening of dinner, pjs and driving through Merry Mile” and “we wouldn’t miss coming to see the lights”!
Proceeds from this fundraiser will continue to benefit an infrastructure project on the 175-year-old grounds. Last year, the committee recommended and replaced the 4H/Youth/Sheriff Posse horse arena. Other improvements include the fronts of the animal barns and electrical.
