With programming spanning across visual arts, music, and theatre, Lowell Arts plans for another exciting season that will kick off their 50th anniversary celebrations.
A new season is on the horizon at Lowell Arts as announced to their membership on August 20, 2026. With the organization turning 50 years old in 2027, the staff has been working diligently to create another great season of art. From Fall 2026 through Summer 2027, Lowell Arts will continue programming for the visual arts, music, and theatre.
“From the Fallasburg Arts Festival to our gallery exhibitions, theatre shows, and music concerts, and our newest addition, Public Art in downtown Lowell, this season reflects what we care about most: giving artists at every level a place to share their work and giving our community countless ways to experience it,” said Lowell Arts Executive Director, Janet Teunis. “It's a fitting way to begin our 50th year and to reaffirm why Lowell Arts has been part of West Michigan's cultural life for nearly five decades.”
Kicking off the season is the 58th annual Fallasburg Arts Festival on September 19 & 20. A two-day event featuring 100 unique fine arts and fine crafts booths, food booths, children's craft area, craft demonstrations, and music performed on an outdoor stage at the picturesque Fallasburg Park. Additional season events include: a Muralocity Dedication on October 10, 2026, Lowell Area Schools K-12 District Wide Art Show in May 2027 in partnership with Lowell Area Schools and the City of Lowell, and in July during Riverwalk Festival, Lowell Arts will be having a Studio Supply Sale.
In the gallery, many art exhibitions and displays are lined up for the year ahead. The current exhibit titled Against the Grain will be up through October 3. Following that, the gallery is transformed into a retail space for fine arts and fine crafts during the holiday season. The annual Artist Market will be in the Lowell Arts gallery from November 5, 2026, through January 16, 2027. Starting off Lowell Arts’ 50th year is the 41st annual West Michigan Art Competition; a juried exhibition featuring artwork in all visual art media, highlighting outstanding work by Michigan artists residing in a 42-county region. The final exhibition of the 2026-27 season is U-Create, the Lowell Arts Member Exhibition, which features the unique visual artwork in any media inspired by the number 50 created by Lowell Arts members.
Theatre performances will also be a part of the new season, taking the gallery and converting it into a black-box style theater between gallery exhibitions. The first production of the season will be The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, & Jess Winfield happening October 16-25, 2026. Following the West Michigan Art Competition, in April 2027, the spring theatre production is set to be A Bright New Boise by Samuel D. Hunter, playwright of The Whale. Tickets for each production will be available in advance on the Lowell Arts website.
And finally, don’t forget about all the available music and concerts. A new experience is kicking off the music portion of the season with the Songwriter’s Weekend Workshop. Three experienced musicians will host this three-day event in late October geared towards musicians of all levels who wish to converse and collaborate with other songwriters, ending with a public performance at Sound Check. Speaking of their partnership, the Lowell Arts at Sound Check Concert Series from November to April features a mix of local
favorites and award-winning artists, presented at Sound Check, a venue designed to provide an intimate listening experience for music enthusiasts. To cap off the 2026-27 season, the Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series presented by Lowell Arts and the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce will take the stage in front of the Lowell Showboat once again. Bands for the summer concerts to be announced, so stay tuned.
