: In honor of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Muskegon Museum of History and Science is proud to present a special exhibit, Home Front Heroes. This exhibit will showcase the incredible contributions of Muskegon County businesses and residents who played a vital role in the war effort from home.

From manufacturing essential wartime goods to supporting victory gardens and rationing, our community’s resilience and dedication helped shape the outcome of the war.

“We are thrilled to be able to honor the everyday heroes of Muskegon who made such an impact during these transformative years,” said Lakeshore Museum Center executive director Melissa Horton. “Their sacrifices and contributions helped to ensure that our country, our community, and our freedoms would prevail.”

The exhibit will feature a variety of artifacts, documents, and photographs that tell the story of Muskegon’s wartime experience. Visitors will learn about the role of local industries, such as Continental Motors and the many foundries, in supplying the war effort. They will also hear the stories of individual residents who made significant contributions, such as those who served as volunteers in the Red Cross or who planted victory gardens.

“This exhibit is a reminder that even in the midst of war, there are always people who step up to help,” said Horton. “We hope that it will inspire visitors to reflect on the importance of service and the value in the Muskegon community.”

The Home Front Heroes exhibit will be on display at the Muskegon Museum of History and Science from February 11, 2025, to January 10, 2026.
