20% Off Admission on Hot Summer Days

When temperatures rise, John Ball Zoo helps guests stay cool while saving money. This summer, whenever the National Weather Service forecasts a high temperature of 88 degrees or higher for Grand Rapids, guests can enjoy 20% off daytime admission with the Zoo's new Otter Beat the Heat promotion.

The offer is designed to encourage our community to make the most of sunny summer days while experiencing the Zoo's incredible wildlife from around the globe.

"Many of the animals that call John Ball Zoo home are native to tropical and warm climates, making summer a wonderful time to see them enjoying their habitats," said Marie Revenew, Director of Marketing & Sales at John Ball Zoo. "The Zoo is also a surprisingly comfortable place to spend a hot day. Guests can cool off in our air-conditioned indoor exhibits, relax in shaded areas throughout the park, enjoy refreshing cooling mist stations, and treat themselves to cold beverages, ice cream and other refreshing snacks. It's the perfect way to beat the heat while making unforgettable memories."

Visitors can encounter animals representing species from Africa, Asia, South America, Australia and other regions where warm temperatures are part of everyday life. Summer also offers opportunities to experience animal feedings, keeper chats, interactive exhibits, and seasonal programming throughout the Zoo.

The Otter Beat the Heat promotion begins immediately and continues through October 2, 2026. It is automatically activated whenever the National Weather Service forecasts a daytime high of 88 degrees or higher for Grand Rapids. Discounted admission tickets can be purchased only at the Zoo's admissions gate on qualifying days. It is not available online.

Guests are encouraged to check John Ball Zoo's website for weather updates and promotion announcements before their visit.
