John Ball Zoo is celebrating a very special milestone on September 3 as Hugo, the Zoo’s beloved young pygmy hippopotamus, turns one year old—and his birthday gift is sure to be kind of a big dill.
The community is invited to join the Pickle Hippo Party throughout the day, with a special pickle party celebration taking place from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. Guests can help Hugo relish his first birthday as the zoo works to make his birthday wish come true: a ginormous pickle worthy of a growing hippo.
“Every birthday deserves an unforgettable gift, and for Hugo, that means a larger-than-life pickle,” said Andy McIntyre, Chief Operations Officer at John Ball Zoo. “We’re inviting our community to help make his first birthday extra special with a gift he can explore, play with and enjoy.”
