The Holland Farmers Market is excited to host a “Thanks For Giving” food drive to benefit
the Community Action House Food Club beginning this Saturday, November 1 through Saturday,
November 22. Community members are invited to donate healthy, non-perishable food items at the
Market each Wednesday and Saturday in November to benefit Community Action House’s Food Club,
located at 739 Paw Paw Drive in Holland. The Food Club is a membership-based grocery store serving
low-income families that provides choice, flexibility, and access to healthy foods along with membership
perks and support at the Opportunity Hub.

To thank the community for their support of the food drive, each customer that donates a non-perishable
food item(s) from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm on Market days will receive one entry into the “Thanks for Giving”
gift basket giveaway. The gift basket includes both poster design and logo merchandise from the Holland
Farmers Market, along with $100 in Market Bucks gift certificates that can be used to shop at the Market.

Customers can receive on entry into the giveaway each Market day that they bring in a healthy, non-
perishable food donation. Among the most needed items at the Food Club are dried or canned beans,                                            healthy cooking oils, flour and spices, whole wheat and gluten-free pasta, broth, no sugar added juice,
and canned fruit in 100% juice, among others.

“Community Action House shares in the Holland Farmers Market’s mission to ensure that healthy food is
accessible to all members of our community,” said Holland Farmers Market Marketing Coordinator Kara
de Alvare. “With SNAP benefits not being funded in November in the State of Michigan due to the federal
government shutdown, we recognize that it’s even more important that we work alongside them to ensure
that members of our community don’t go hungry this holiday season. We are excited to be hosting this
food drive to help them stock the shelves at the Food Club and to be able to recognize the generosity of
our customers with a fun giveaway.”

Market customers that are interested in entering the giveaway, but forget to bring a non-perishable food
item, can purchase Market Bucks gift certificates ($5.00 minimum) to donate to Community Action House.
Market staff will give the gift certificates to Community Action House to allow them to purchase fresh,
healthy and local produce for their Food Club members directly from the Holland Farmers Market.
