Join the MSU Science Festival and KBS scientists for "Sound & Science: Inspiring Connections" on Monday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Stray in Grand Rapids—an evening where science and music unite to spark curiosity and wonder!
In this engaging event, five scientists from MSU’s Kellogg Biological Station will give dynamic five-minute talks on the discoveries and ideas that inspire them in ecology, evolution, and microbiology. The speakers will be paired with a local musician, Steve Leaf of Sunken Melody, who will create a musical response, blending sound and science into a unique, immersive experience.
Featured Scientists & Their Passions:
- Kadeem Gilbert – Exploring the intricate relationships between plants, animals, and microbes, with a special focus on carnivorous plants and their microenvironments
- Nameer Baker – Investigating the hidden world of microbes and their role in shaping ecosystems.
- Cristal Lopez – Unraveling the ways plants regulate pH at the transcriptional level and how it connects to carbon metabolism.
- Ashley Dart – Studying how human-driven environmental changes affect butterflies, biodiversity, and ecosystems.
- Paul Decena – Examining how evolution shapes genome size, architecture, and traits like aging.
Whether you're a science enthusiast, a music lover, or just curious about the unexpected ways art and research intertwine, this event promises an inspiring fusion of knowledge and creativity.
