Join the interpretive staff of Colonial Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City as they showcase the maritime history of Michilimackinac, this Saturday, July 13, starting at 9:30am with various events and demonstrations continuing on throughout the day.
Colonial Michilimackinac was a major hub for the Great Lakes Fur Trade, and its location where Lakes Michigan and Huron meet was a major factor in its success. Daily programs will focus on Michilimackinac’s maritime history by discussing and demonstrating the many different ways Michilimackinac’s historic residents interacted with and worked on the water.
Throughout the day, visitors will be treated to a variety of engaging events and demonstrations highlighting the diverse ways that Michilimackinac's inhabitants interacted with and relied upon the waterways. Led by knowledgeable staff, these activities offer a unique glimpse into the past.
“We’ll be doing things that are truly special that guests wouldn’t be able to see otherwise,” said Craig Wilson, Mackinac State Historic Parks Chief Curator. “Even if someone has visited in the past, there is always something new to see or do.”

10:00 - Bales, Barrels and Boxes: Supplying the Great Lakes Fur Trade Program
11:00 - Weapons on the Water Demonstration
12:00 - Feeding a Voyageur Crew Program
12:30 - Michilimackinac’s Enslaved Community program
2:00 - Boat and Canoe demonstration
3:30 - Weapons on the Water demonstration
4:00 - Some Tea and Loaf Sugar: Tea at the British Trader’s House
5:00 - Bales, Barrels and Boxes: Supplying the Great Lakes Fur Trade program
6:00 - Musket Firing demonstration
7:00 – Colonial Michilimackinac Closed for the Evening
Informal programs such as knot tying, net weaving, baking, and line throwing activities will also occur throughout the day.
Admission to Colonial Michilimackinac grants access to all special programs and is priced at $15.25 for adults, $9.75 for children aged 5-12, and free for Mackinac Associates members and children under 4. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the maritime history of Michilimackinac. Last admission is at 6pm.
