Step back in time and explore one of Mackinac Island’s most iconic natural landmarks on a guided walk with Mackinac State Historic Parks Naturalist Kyle Bagnall on Wednesday, August 20, at 3:00 p.m.
In August 1894, Major Clarence Bennett, superintendent of Mackinac National Park, issued a stern warning to visitors: anyone caught defacing Sugar Loaf would be expelled from the park. On this tour, participants will learn the fascinating geology of Sugar Loaf, discover its enduring status as one of the celebrated attractions on Mackinac Island, and even uncover evidence of some 19th-century vandalism.
Gather at the Fort Mackinac Avenue of Flags (Fort Mackinac’s rear entrance) for this easy, two-mile hike along paved and gravel roads. There is no cost or pre-registration required for this tour, but donations are welcome.
Support for many Mackinac State Historic Parks programs comes from Mackinac Associates, friends preserving and sharing Mackinac’s heritage.
