- Time:
- 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Join us to hear from Dr. Kevin McGraw, professor and chairperson in the Department of Integrative Biology at Michigan State University.
Dr. McGraw’s studies includes investigating the function of vocal communication in orioles, patterns of bird biodiversity in Michigan cities, ancient pigment evolution, and how microplastics affect bird health. He is a leading researcher on bird coloration and how environmental change—from cities to farms—shapes the lives of wild birds.
Talking points will focus on:
• the many different mechanisms that birds use to create color
• how color serves a wide range of functions in bird behavior and survival
• why feather colors evolve differently than colors on bare body parts like bills, legs, and skin
Dessert with Discussion is a free, biannual event that’s held both in person and online via Zoom.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. In-person attendees will have a chance to mingle and connect with others before and after the discussion:
The talk itself begins at 7 pm., and the full event runs until 8:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided, and a cash bar will be available.
