Of course, the Air Zoo in Portage is a southwest Michigan staple, and all month long, they are hosting “open cockpit” events, where you can get up close and personal with different aircraft! On weekends in February, you’ll be able to view or sit in the cockpits of some of the most famous aircrafts in history. This is a super unique way to get a “pilot’s eye” view of history. The experience is included with paid admission, and you’ll want to be sure to have your cameras ready to take some awesome photos as well.
With this colder weather, Ice Festivals seem appropriate, and you’ll find them happening throughout the lakeshore area this weekend, including in St. Joseph. Their “Ice Fest” is happening today through Sunday and features winter fun and adventures for the whole family, including ice skating, cardboard sled races, and intricate ice sculptures made with over 40 blocks of ice. There’s even gonna be ice carving competitions and magic shows for some great entertainment too – it’s gonna be tons of fun for the whole family.
The Michigan Mead Makers Guild is presenting the annual “Winter Mead Mixer” on tomorrow from 12-8 PM at Great Mead Hall in Bangor. This event will feature 9 mead makers like Great Mead Hall and Archival Brewing Company where you’ll get to taste meads from throughout West Michigan! If you’ve not tried it before, mead (or honey wine) is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey and water and flavored with fruits, spices, etc. just like craft beer. So this is a super fun-tasting event that will also feature live music and sweet treats as well. Purchase either half-day or full-day admission and get plenty of drink tickets to taste these sweet flavors.
