Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Series 2022-2023.

The profound Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will perform three outstanding concerts during the 2023-2024 season:

November 9, 2023 – “Trios Transformed”

Trios Transformed will feature Co-Artistic Directors of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Pianist Wu Han and Cellist David Finckel along with Violinist Arnaud Sussman on this opening concert for the CMS series. This concert will highlight the composer Joseph Haydn, well known for his 104 symphonies and 68 string quartets, with his inspiring piano trios that will delight listeners as they hear and watch these three ultra-talented artists perform. The audience will be able to hear the direct effects of Haydn’s genius on Beethoven, as well, as these three outstanding CMS musicians tackle a four-work juxtaposition of seminal trios by both composers.

March 7, 2024 – “Instrumental Array”

In a celebration of instrumental odd couples, three duo teams from CMS of Lincoln Center will highlight the extremes of possibility for their ensembles. Maurice Duruflé’s post-Romantic trio augments the duo format, and all will join for the concluding Septet in D minor for Flute, Oboe, Horn, Viola, Cello, Bass and Piano, Op.74 (c. 1816) composed by virtuoso pianist Johann Hummel, who was a pupil of Mozart and Haydn and was admired by Beethoven. This concert will feature CMS artists Juho Pohjonen, piano; Paul Neubauer, voila; Nick Canellakis, cello; Nina Bernat, double bass; Sooyun Kim, flute; James Austin Smith, oboe; Radovan Vlatkovic, horn.

April 18, 2024 – “String Magic”

The deeply human voices of violins, violas, and cellos have inspired much of the greatest music ever composed. From Beethoven’s earliest all-string work to Francaix’s effervescent trio, this program offers a rich feast of string sonorities from the 18th century to the modern age. Strings Magic will feature CMS violinists Chad Hoopes and Bella Hristova; violists Matthew Lipman and Timothy Ridout; and cellist Sihao He.

Spectacular Jazz Series 2022-2023

Three exciting concerts are planned for the 140th Anniversary Spectacular Jazz Series in the 2023-24 season:

October 21, 2023 – Madeleine Peyroux

Thirty years after her formative busking days, Madeleine Peyroux is the proud curator of nine beguiling albums and is an accomplished performer with sold-out world-wide tours. Her atmospheric version of Serge Gainsborough’s La Javanaise was used in the soundtrack of the Oscar winning film, The Shape of Water, and her countless accolades include the coveted BBC International Artist of the Year honor. This year, 2023, finds this prolific musician continuing her world tour featuring her newest release Careless Love Deluxe Anniversary Edition (2021).

January 18, 2024 – The Blue Note 85th Anniversary Tour

Blue Note Records is celebrating their 85th Anniversary with a U.S. Tour starring The Blue Note Quintet, a group brought together to honor the label’s rich history and pave the way for the eclectic artists of today’s roster. Six-time GRAMMY® Award-nominee, Gerald Clayton leads the band as its Musical Director and Pianist. “Gerald Clayton is one of the most accomplished, distinctive and innovative pianists performing today,” says Don Was, The Blue Note label’s president since 2012. Rounding out the quintet is vibraphonist Joel Ross, saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, drummer Kendrick Scott, and bassist Matt Brewer.

March 26, 2024 – Samara Joy

With her GRAMMY® Award-winning and chart-topping album, Linger Awhile, 23-year-old Samara Joy makes her case to join the likes of Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday as the next jazz singing sensation. The New York Times praised the “silky-voiced rising star” for “helping jazz take a youthful turn,” while NPR All Things Considered named her a “classic jazz singer from a new generation.” In February 2023, Samara Joy took home two GRAMMY® Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album and the auspicious distinction of Best New Artist!
